Tim Stevens

Writer, Producer

Tim Stevens, a Garner native, was a newspaper sports reporter for The News & Observer Publishing Co., for 48 years. He was once named among the Top 10 sports beat reporters in the country.

He was inducted into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 2021. He also is in the National High School Athletics Hall of Fame and the N.C. High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Stevens created the award-winning “Broadway Voices” concert series in Garner and won a national People’s Choice Telly Award for “A Different Kind of Christmas,” a musical special that he produced. Two fundraisers that he produced raised almost $100,000 for hurricane relief.

He has written five plays about his hometown and each has won N.C. Society of Historian honors for multimedia. Garner recognized him for his contributions to the community by awarding him the James R. Stevens Service to Garner Award, an award named for his father.

Tim has been the principle responsible for bringing The Wall That Heals, a 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that travels with a mobile education center, to Garner’s Lake Benson Park in 2022.
